We are installaing the script on CentOS with VPS Environment . A developer is helping us to install it.

We have installed Litespeed server too on his advice .When he started installation of wikidot,he got an error and unable to replicate it.

Error :

fatal: unable to connect a socket (Connection timed out)

Could you please let me know how to resolve it.

By the way , Is Litespeed really important for WikiDot installation? Right now we are using Litespeed 's trial version and needed to upgrade if it is necessary for Wikidot

I think this is a bug because this is something I was able to do in wikidot.com relatively easily.

When I go to look at/edit my profile under My Account.
When I go to Send Email Invitations in the admin section.
When I go to activate the forum (in this case it is not HTML that appears but simply the url of the site I am working on and I cannot get the forum to activate.

This is one of a number of problems I am having and would appreciate any help people can provide on the different threads I am adding.

In order to troubleshoot this, I'm hoping to find out which library or libraries are involved in the creation and display of the captcha image?

Since wikidot is self-contained and insists on being at the root of the server, my only real option is to proxy requests to wikidot through Apache. I have wikidot running on port 8080, only accessible from the server. I have Apache configured as a reverse proxy with mod_proxy and mod_proxy_html, and it's halfway working: it serves pages and rewrites the links in the sidebar. It doesn't rewrite the @import style directive, so no CSS, but I could get that working with regexp's. The bigger problem is ajax, which I've never personally dealt with so I have no idea how to fix.

When I try to login/create a page/pretty much anything, I get this error:

The ajax request failed. Please check your internet connection or report a bug if the error repeats during your work. code:404

Has anyone gotten wikidot running behind an apache proxy? Or, barring that, any other ajax web app? I'm not sure where to go from here.

I've been using www.wikidot.com for years and recently decided to run it on my own computer.
So I installed the deb package on my ubuntu 9.10 box and it worked. Very nice!
I was even able to login as Admin to change the site from default public to private, just like what you would have do on wikidot.com.

However, I still need a few key features before settling down.
1. Is there any way to run the site as https instead of http? I guess I would have to change the lighttp conf file, right? Is there any documentation on this? Thanks.
2. I would really love to run multiple sites, with each site having different members and styles for different projects I am running. I notcied that the current wiki process is

lighttpd -f conf/lighttpd/single_wiki.conf

This seems to indicate that this is a single project site? Is there a multi-project conf file I can start with? Ideally, I would like to have URLs like

https://<ip>/wiki/project1 and https://<ip>/wiki/project2

or

https://wiki.mydomain/project1 and https://wiki.mydomain/project2

to be two independent projects as if they are on wikidot.com.
Do you think that's possible?

Why isn't there a spam filter like Akismet or Sblam installed for edits / comments? The amount of spam on open wikis is becoming a nightmare and the only solution seems to be switching the permission schemas to allow edits from specific users only.

• Git to retrieve the source (? do I already have it on ubuntu ?)

I have installed wikidot on Ubuntu, and I've downloaded the source from GIT.
I would like to translate wikidot in other languages (currently only Polish and English are supported). Are there translation file I can edit to do so?

Wikidot already supports some tags needed for SEO (Search Engine Optimization), but it lacks 2 features that are a "must" for SEO.

Secondly, Wikidot could use the code bellow on non-existing pages, so that the search engines won't index pages with that default text:

This is not only duplicated content, but also hides our real contents behind these "keywords": "page", "exist", "create"… This is specially true on newly created wikis, not fully populated yet.

Doing a quick search on Wikidot.org source files, I think I've found a way of implementing it. Maybe the solution for the robots=noindex on not found pages might be like the following (code starts on line 50 of http://github.com/gabrys/wikidot/blob/master/templates/layouts/WikiLayout.tpl):

In my opinion it seems to be an easy solution for that problem of duplicated content and unwanted search keywords.

I have just set up a site recently, thanks to the help of Gabrys! :)

I would like to set my site as private though and has come in a little problem. I have set my page as private, and set it to show the page auth:login if user is unauthorized. So far so good.

However, I can't log in once the site is set as private! I currently have two admin accounts and both are members of my site. But when whenever I try logging in, it will say:

Error
Oooops!
This Site is private and accessible only to its members.

Good thing when I was trying that, I was using the accounts from two different computers at the same time. When this happened, one of the accounts was still logged in, and I was able to set it to be public again.

Is this a bug of some sort? It seems that to actually log in, user should already have access to the site first as a member and should be logged in first. But thats a recursive loop…………??!!??

Does anyone know a way around this?

i locked myself out by turning the site private on my homenetwork-server.
There is no, at least i do not see one, possible way to access the login page.

The login page looks like:
The page does not (yet) exist.

The page system:join you want to access does not exist.

create page

and when i click on edit i see:

Error
Oooops!

This Site is private and accessible only to its members.

Any help is appreciated!

I want to setup a Wikidot site from home and I have encounter a trouble.

I am using Ubuntu Server 9.10 and it is running on Virtualbox. I followed the guide at http://www.wikidot.org/installation-guide , and even though I have encountered different issues before, everything is set up right now.

However, when I enter the link at the end of 'make', I get "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage". I also tried using Firefox (which is recommended for wikidot) and I am still unable to load the page.

I have tried loading the page from another computer on the same network, using the IP of this ubuntu machine; as well as using the local host IP directly from the ubuntu machine. Both of which have similar results.

When loading the IP without specifying port 8080 (ie. using the default port 80), I do get the default page from lightpd, so I know lighttpd is working.

Would someone be able to enlighten me in the right direction if they haev encountered this? Or if anyone have any suggestions?

The error is "Call to a member function getForumSettings() on a non-object in ManageSiteForumAction.php on line 46".

Seems that it is looking for a site "template-en" but that does not exist on the sites table. Also the forum_settings and forum_categories tables are empty.

User is able to complete and submit the account form without any difficulty, and they receive the email with the verification code.

But when the user enters the verification code (or if they click on the verification link in the email), they get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function getSiteId() on a non-object in
wikidot/php/actions/CreateAccount2Action.php on line 293

It's quite possible that I've missed something in the wiki farm configuration, or in the db setup.

Hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction in terms of where to start looking.

We're attempting to set up a wiki farm using wikidot. Quick question:

Instead of using wildcard DNS to support a subdomain for each wiki, is there any way to set up wikidot so that the wikis would be addressable as follows:

http://www.mydomain.com/wiki1
http://www.mydomain.com/wiki2
http://www.mydomain.com/wiki3
http://www.mydomain.com/wiki4

After reading through some of the posts, I'm guessing the answer is that we have to use subdomains for the wiki farm, but just wanted to verify. Thanks!

don't know why, my wiki has only 10 pages and 2 pictures

For quiet some time I am running a wikidot (v1) on my server.
I recently dated my version up from rev 266 to 463 (and did updates two times before this).

A new post-update-created Wiki gives now an error in the following situation:
I upload an Image (or some other file, but let us think in an jpg file).
The upload works.
I try to direcly access the file in the "files" menu, giving me the list of attatched files => Error!:

Checking this in a pre-update-existing Wiki, I now get the same error if I try to access the file by the "files" menu.
BUT: I do not get an error if I upload a file and use/embedd it with the image command in the page content. The image correctly appears in the page. (For old embedded images and for newly uploaded ones!)

Hmm, back to the post-update-created Wiki, trying the image command:
No! This works not inside the post-update-created Wiki. Using the image command here does not provide the above error, but the image is simply not shown.

This error is much too deep in PHP for me. So I need some help.
The versions beyond 463 did change very much (at least at the time I did the update).
So I got (in this forum) the recommendation for rev 463.

Hopefully, there is any solution that does not require an update to the latest revision (?!)

(I did take a look in the web/private_file_filter.php. It does not very much. It e.g. includes the php/setup.php. There it does not much but invoking a require_once on some other files, e.g. php/utils/GlobalProperties.php. Probably it is a configuration problem, caused by the update? That I do not provide a new configuration item, that was not necessary before… Against this theory would stand that I manually reconfigure the conf/wikidot.ini based on the new template with the settings from my old version during each update procedure. So the configuration should? not cause the problem… I could post the config, if necessary.)

It seems like the the parser can't handle that amount of "wiki syntax" at once. I have pages with a lot more characters, but not as much wiki markup.

On the Pro site a similar error was reported and fixed (http://pro.wikidot.com/ticket:241)

Can you share what the fix was so I can try it on my server?

I'm trying to install wikidot in a Centos 5 server.

I have installed PHP 5.2, Postgresql 8.3, got the wikidot clone from github.

Whenever I try to run the 'make prepare_db' as postgres user I got the following error:

If I try to execute 'make' I get:

A friend tried to create an account.
The verification mail never arrived.
I did an account creation on my own — yes the verificaiton mail does not arrive.
I tried with my existing account a "forgot password" — no mail arrives.

But the logs do not contain any information about the mailing.

How does the Mail Backend work?
Is there and where is the log file for mailing?
How do I test the wikidot mailing?
(My "forgot password" testing method is a little bit unsatisfying)

(The /var/log/mail.* files do not log any activity about the relevant mailings)

I tried installing the latest revision to wikidot, but the installation has apparently changed drastically. Any advice on how to get this new version to install, or perhaps a fix for the items listed above?

I have an existing wiki (schoolsplay.wikidot.com) that I want to update.
To get to work I take the train, but unfortunately I have no internet connection there (3G is way to expensive!)

I could get the vmimage working, but how can I use an existing wiki in it?
So getting the existing wiki into my machine?
And getting the updated wiki from my machine to wikidot.com?

The other link to the files works fine (http://svn.wikidot.org/repos), but I like the browsable link to try and stay on top of what was changed from revision to revision.
